Project Information:
“The Project” is the Tashkent New Gateway Hub International Airport. The project is located approximately 23km south of the city of Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in an area which is largely flat-lying and occupied by fields and irrigation channels used for the cultivation of cotton. The site is roughly in the shape of a parallelogram of 6km x 2.5km size and is 130 982 hectares in area. A few villages are located in the area, along with roads, and cemeteries. The Project aims to enhance the capacity of the existing airport by creating a modern facility that meets international standards. This will improve the country’s transportation infrastructure, offering increased passenger capacity, advanced cargo services, and high-quality passenger amenities.
Project Activities:
• Preparation of desk-based baseline information for local and regional level for environmental topics: soil and geology, hydrogeology, hydrology, terrestrial ecology and biodiversity, archaeology and cultural heritage.
• Preparation of the National EIA
• Initial mapping of public service facilities i.e., schools, hospitals, bus stations etc. •Characterization of the of communities and people living in the AoI and their livelihoods. •Identification of the land tenure system and its use including the type/s of land within the project area.
• Identification of any government offices/agencies located within the site.
• Identification of any areas of cultural heritage within the community
• Confirmation of the potential ethnic groups within the AoI for screening of any Indigenous Peoples
• Identification of any active government development programs in the AoI and their nature
especially those that support vulnerable groups.
